Digital Storytelling – Putting Learning Above output

Thank you for joining us at ISTE for Digital storytelling: Putting learning above output WBH327

Sunday, June 29, 4:30 pm–7:30 pm

GWCC A304

The session is hosted as a BYOD session. The focus will be on iPad apps; however, there are many similar or identical apps for iPhones. There are some apps discussed and modeled that are paid; however, for exploration during the session, there are similar free app alternatives.

You will need to have an Apple ID and password and the ability to purchase apps. While you may choose to only download free apps, they still must be purchased in the iTunes Store.

To ensure we can provide depth of learning, we have chosen a small set of apps to explore Digital Storytelling through.

Concept Recommended Free Alternative
Making Photos Camera (default installed) Camera
Storyboarding Comic Life ($.4.99) Comic Touch
Videos iMovie ($4.99*) Videolicious
Video Annotation Coaches Eye ($4.99) Coach My Video
White Boarding Explain Everything Educreations Interactive Whiteboard
Books Book Creator (free) Book Creator
Live Stage Animation Puppet Pals Directors Cut ($2.99) Puppet Pals HD**

File Storage Dropbox (free) Dropbox
Streaming Video YouTube (free) YouTube

* iMovie is free with the purchase of an iOS 7 device

** Puppet Pals HD is version 1, not the updated version also available. The free version has in app purchase options.

The session is heavily hands on. Our intention is to provide a quick demo and provide ideas for where the app is used in digital storytelling, then provide hands on exploration time.

Once all of the apps have been discussed, you will also have time to create a 1 minute video of your own direction. You may want to have some content already on your iPad, or have an idea in mind.
